Sleep Apnea
Sleep apnea is a disorder that affect 18 million Americans. Classified as a sleep disorder, the major symptom of sleep apnea is excessive daytime sleepiness. While some people may snore and wake up from snoring episodes at night, snoring may or may not have anything to do with sleep apnea.
In fact, those with sleep apnea don't even know they are waking up at night at all. Apneas are mini-episodes when one will stop breathing during sleep time. The sleep apnea episodes can last for under one second or can be 10 or more seconds in duration.
Most patients who are suspected of having sleep apnea will go to their doctors and complain of excessive daytime sleepiness especially after lunch. Doctors, after an examination will many times respond by ordering a sleep study to help with the diagnosis. Stumble It!
